Service Provider:  Home Performance, Inc.

Home Performance, Inc. is a full-service home performance contractor. We make homes more comfortable, energy efficient, and improve indoor air quality at the same time. The services we offer include:

Diagnostic Testing & Energy Auditing

We are educated in the latest building science and we use high tech tools (infrared cameras/blower doors) to diagnose potential comfort/energy issues with your home and develop a customized plan meet your needs. As home performance contractors, we understand the wide variety of solutions that are available and the costs and benefits of each one. We participate in several subsidized audit programs including Puget Sound Energy’s HomePrint auditing program (for those living outside the city of Seattle) and Seattle City Light’s Audit Program, for those living within Seattle City Light Territory.

Improvements to your home may include:

Air Sealing

Air leaks in a typical home cause the vast majority of comfort, indoor air quality and energy efficiency problems in existing homes and are often overlooked.  Due to uncontrolled air leakage the average home loses all the hot air inside it one to two times every hour during the winter. Problem areas include: floors, attics, fireplaces and heating system ductwork. We are typically able to reduce a home’s air leakage by 20 to 50% and still have more than enough fresh air for the occupants.

 Floor, Wall, or Attic Insulation

We install formaldehyde free fiberglass and cellulose insulation (ground up recycled newspapers) in new and existing homes.

Floors: We typically use fiberglass insulation in floors, but in some cases we can install cellulose. We specialize in high quality installation and air sealing. Gaps as small as 3/8th inch can reduce the insulation’s effectiveness by 30%. (Building Performance Institute, “Effective R-Values for Batt Insulation” 4/07)

Walls: We insulate new and existing walls with the dense pack cellulose/tube fill insulation method. This technique prevents settling of the wall insulation over time, prevents the installer from inadvertently missing areas due to blocking in the walls, and has the added benefit of significantly reducing air leaks through walls.

Attics: Before insulating attics we always seal the air leaks coming through the ceiling. This dramatically improves the energy efficiency/comfort of the home and can prevent potential moisture condensation issues in attics. After insulating we install loose blown cellulose to whatever standard you desire.  The building code minimum is R38 (10”), but we often install R50 (13”), which doesn’t cost much more, but maximizes comfort during the summer and winter.
